Volleyball Falls to First-Place Colgate in 2019 Season Finale

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball concluded its 2019 season on Saturday, falling to first-place Colgate in a crowded Davis Gym, as fans showed support for the team's Senior Day celebration. The Bison came out on top in the second set before the 15-1 Raiders came away with the 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16) win.
The Raiders pulled ahead early in the first set after a pair of 6-1 runs grew the deficit. Trailing 20-10, the Bison came back with a 4-0 run that included back-to-back service aces from Kelsey O'Loughlin to pull within six, however, Colgate went on to score five straight and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second, the Bison collected five of the first six points and held the lead until a 4-1 Colgate run put the Raiders up 12-10. The score was tied five times in the second, but Colgate strung together enough points to go up 20-15. Then, a pair of Bucknell service aces and four straight attacking errors by Colgate resulted in a 5-0 Bison run that put them up 21-20. Bucknell scored four of the final five points to even the match score at 1 apiece.
After Colgate opened the third set with six straight points, the Bison were forced to play from behind and never caught up. Bucknell went on another 5-0 run and came within five of the tying the score at 23-23, but Colgate wound up on top and carried a 2-1 lead into the fourth.
Colgate maintained its lead throughout the duration of the fourth set and ended the match on a 5-1 run.
Sophie Bullard finished the night with a team-high 19 kills and captured her 13th double-double of the season with 10 digs. The senior also posted a .326 hitting percentage. Senior Brooke Stark provided a team-high 12 digs, and Selby Schnobrich led the Bison with 23 assists. Senior Mimi Richards, who ends her career as the Bison's all-time leader in block assists, added three more tonight while supplying seven kills.
