LEWISBURG, Pa. – Joe Vasile, who most recently served as a media relations and broadcasting assistant for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, has been hired as the radio play-by-play voice of the Bucknell women's basketball team.
Vasile will have the call for each home and away women's basketball game of the 2019-20 season, a role he also held with Lycoming in 2016 and with West Chester from 2017 to 2019. Vasile has also served as a television broadcaster and content producer for four minor league baseball teams.
Vasile has developed a familiarity with Bucknell athletics over the past three years, serving as a local television play-by-play and fill-in radio play-by-play broadcaster for Bucknell basketball. Vasile has also been a play-by-play broadcaster for Patriot League Network productions of men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, and water polo.
"Joe Vasile is an outstanding young broadcaster who has already done great things in the industry," said Mike Trudnak, general manager of Bucknell Sports Properties, which manages Bucknell's radio broadcasts. "The Bison women's basketball team has made a big mark in the local community, and we believe our fans will greatly enjoy Joe's calls of all of our home and away games."
"I'm tremendously excited to be part of this championship program, and the greater Bucknell community," said Vasile. "I'm looking forward to bringing Bison Nation closer to all the action this season as our student-athletes and coaches compete for another Patriot League title. I'd like to thank Mike Trudnak and Doug Birdsong for giving me this incredible opportunity."
Vasile can be heard all season on 90.5 FM VIA Public Media and online on VBU Streaming. His calls of home games will also be simulcast on the Patriot League Network.
The Bucknell women's basketball team begins its season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 with a trip to Virginia.
