About the Bison
- Bucknell, now on a four-game unbeaten streak for the second time this season, is coming off a big win over Boston U in league play, while coming from behind to tie Binghamton, 1-1 on Tuesday.
- In the win over Boston U, three different Bison scored, with Patrick O'Hara, Kevin Gulizio, and Nick King all finding the back of the net in Bucknell's 3-0 win.
- The three-goal margin was the first-ever game in nine matchups between the two schools that was decided by more than one goal. The first seven games between the two schools went into overtime with five of those games ending in a draw.
- Bucknell has taken two one-goal victories in the series, while the Terriers earned their first win, 2-1, in 2018.
- The win for the Bison vaulted the Orange and Blue to fifth in the Patriot League standings on eight points, four points behind fourth-place Loyola Maryland.
- Bucknell also earned back-to-back results over Binghamton for the first time since winning three in a row in 2000, 2001, and 2005, all shutout victories.
- The 1-1 draw against the Bearcats was largely in thanks to senior goalkeeper Emmett Witmer, who provided a penalty save in the final 15 minutes against the Bearcats for the second consecutive year after denying Binghamton a late goal from the spot in the 2018 win in Vestal.
- Witmer dove low to his right to stop the penalty attempt for Binghamton in the 85th minute of play on Tuesday, and has now won his past two starts in goal against the Bearcats and Northeastern.
- Freshman Luke Smith manned the net for the Bison against Boston University, earning his second clean sheet of the year in the process.
- The native of Devon, Pa. is one of only five goalkeepers in the Patriot League to earn multiple shutouts this season.
- Smith also ranks second in the Patriot League in goals against average at 0.80, ranking behind Navy's Ian Bramblett.
- Bucknell has not allowed more than two goals in a game this season, and has only let in more than one goal once since Sept. 14, a 2-0 defeat at then No. 21 Navy.
- After letting in two goals in three of its opening four games, Bucknell has allowed just nine in the ten games since.
- The center back pairing of Trevor Wiggins and Quinn Bredin has been solid, along with freshman Zach Hurchalla, who has provided minutes at both the center back and left back spot. Both Patrick Mahoney and Stefan Gollisz have also put in good minutes at right back, along with Bernie Wright, who has spent a good portion of his time at left back this season.
- The Bucknell defense is tied for third in the conference in goals allowed average at 1.14 this season.
- Hurchalla, after assisting Chris Masur's goal against Northeastern and Kevin Gulizio's goal against Boston U, was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 20.
- Bredin, who has played every minute this season barring a short rest at Northeastern, has now played and started in 63 consecutive games, and has made an appearance in all but two games in his career at Bucknell.
- The Bison are currently fourth in the league in goals scored at 21 through 14 games.
- The team is jointly led in scoring by Matt Thorsheim, who has surpassed his stellar freshman season numbers with five goals and five assists already this season, and Patrick O'Hara.
- O'Hara, after registering one shot his freshman season in six games, has had a breakout sophomore season, scoring five times and adding two assists.
- The native of South Hero, Vt. scored the game-tying goal against the Bearcats with just over two minutes left on the clock after getting on the end of Thorsheim's corner kick to the near post.
- O'Hara's five goals have come on just six shots on target.
- Thorsheim and O'Hara become the first set of Bucknell teammates to reach the five-goal mark in the same season since 2015. That year, Thorsheim's older brother Chris (6G), Jesse Klug (5G), and Sebastiaan Blickman (6G) all reached the five-goal mark.
- Wright ranks in a tie for sixth in the Patriot League with four assists this season while playing primarily as a defender so far.
- Gulizio's goal against Boston U was the first of his career, and now gives Bucknell nine different goal scorers this season.
