Men's Tennis Captures Doubles Title, Sends Abaza to Singles Championship

RICHMOND, Va. – Bucknell men's tennis captured a doubles championship on the second day of the River City Invitational and will compete for a singles title tomorrow after standout performances from Michael Abaza and Ryan Jurist.
Abaza and Jurist took care of business in the F doubles bracket, winning their third match of the weekend to take home the title. The pair faced off against George Mason's Luke Maxwell and Chanasorn Nakaurai in the title round and came away with a 6-4 victory.
Abaza also has a shot at a singles title tomorrow when he faces Erick Rivas of George Mason in the F singles championship. After winning his first two matches Friday, Abaza defeated Nakaurai 6-0, 6-3 to stay alive for the final round.
Freshman Guillermo Torres played in the semifinal round of G singles today after winning his first two matches yesterday, but the freshman was defeated 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman Per Astrom also picked up a singles win in the consolation G bracket, defeating Jack Aprahamian of Randolph-Macon 6-3, 6-3.
Abaza and the Bison continue play at the River City Tennis Open tomorrow morning with just singles championships left.
