LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell jumped out to an early lead by winning the first set against Army, but the Black Knights came storming back to defeat the Bison 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-15) in Davis Gym Friday evening. It was just the second loss the Bison have suffered at home this season.
After falling behind 6-2 in the opening set, Bucknell rallied and three straight kills by Anna Carroll down the stretch gave the Bison a 1-0 lead in the match. The Black Knights were held to just a .050 hitting percentage in the set.
Both teams traded the lead multiple times and the Bison trailed 23-22 in the second set, but this time it was the Black Knights that prevailed to even the match at 1-1. The third set began in similar fashion, but a pair of 6-2 runs and a .583 hitting percentage by Army left the Bison trailing 25-17 by the end of it.
An 11-2 run by Army in the fourth set made another rally by the Bison too difficult as the Black Knights would go on to win it 25-15 and secure the match.
Senior Sophie Bullard ultimately led the Bison with 14 kills, 12 digs, and three block assists, while Richards had a team-high six block assists. Freshman Kelsey O'Loughlin provided 27 assists and posted a team-high .385 hitting percentage with seven kills. Carroll ended the night with 11 kills, five of which she recorded in the first set.
Bucknell faces another Patriot League opponent in Davis Gym tomorrow when it hosts Holy Cross. The Bison lead the all-time series 37-18 against the Crusaders. That match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
