Men's Swim & Dive Clipped by Lehigh, 149-145

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team was clipped by Lehigh, 149-145, Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium.
The rivalry dual meet between the Bison (3-5, 3-4 Patriot League) and Mountain Hawks (6-2, 3-2 Patriot League) came down to the final relay, the 400 freestyle relay. The Lehigh quartets ultimately touched the wall first and third, propelling their team past Bucknell, which had pulled ahead by a 141-136 margin thanks to a win by Matt McGoey and a runner-up showing by Carter Weiland in the 200 IM, the proceeding event.
Chadd Cummings was a standout performer for the Bison in his final collegiate dual meet, winning the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke and teaming with Jack Rose, Liam Pitt and Charlie McFarland for a first-place showing in the 200 medley relay. In addition to his 200 IM crown, McGoey won the 200 backstroke and placed second in the 200 freestyle.
Garrett Sommer scored a victory in the 3-meter dive. His score of 268.43 was a new personal best, but he remained slotted seventh in the Bucknell annals. Jacob Lubinski also earned a win for the Bison, outracing the field in the 200 butterfly.
Weiland (500 freestyle, 200 IM) and Pitt (100 freestyle, 100 butterfly) had runner-up performances in two events. Weiland was also third in the 1,000 freestyle while Pitt was third in the 50 freestyle.
Before the meet, the Bison recognized their six seniors Mitch Buccalo, Cummings, Vince Filippini, Tom Gannon, McFarland and Jack Rogers. In addition to swimming the anchor leg of the first-place 200 medley relay team, McFarland was second in the 50 freestyle. Buccalo went second in the 200 butterfly and third in the 200 breaststroke while Rogers was third in both the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
Bucknell next hosts the Bison Invite on Saturday, Feb. 2. It will be the Bison's final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships, set for Feb. 20-23 at Kinney Natatorium.
