Volleyball Beats Niagara, Falls to Hartford

Bison Will Play Brown on Sunday Morning
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Bucknell volleyball split its two matches at the Hartford Invitational on Saturday, opening with a 3-0 win over Niagara before falling to the host Hawks 3-0 later that night. The Bison (5-3) conclude play at the tournament with a match against Brown at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Bucknell 3, Niagara 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-13)
Sophie Bullard and Bridgette Holland combined for 22 kills on just 39 total attacks to lead Bucknell to a 3-0 shutout win over Niagara (0-8) in its opening match Saturday. The Bison opened a tournament with a win for the third straight weekend.
Bucknell hit an impressive .398 as a team, fueled by Holland's 10 kills on .600 hitting and Bullard's 12 kills on .458 hitting. Jennie Burke was just as efficient with her seven kills, posting a .583 hitting percentage.
The Bison added eight points on service aces, led by Alexa Bonanno and Brooke Stark with three apiece. Blake Buchholz and Mimi Richards each contributed one ace.
With Bucknell winning in such dominant fashion, the team's statistics weren't as high as other matches. Other notable performances included seven kills by Buchholz, five kills by Anna Carroll, 23 assists by Bonanno, 18 assists by Selby Schnobrich, and 14 digs by Stark.
Caroline Leitch led Niagara with nine kills and seven digs. Cameron Maris added seven kills. The Purple Eagles played Brown, Bucknell's opponent on Sunday, in their next match and fell 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 19-25, 25-23).
Hartford 3, Bucknell 0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-21)
Holland, Burke, and Richards all hit over .300, but Bucknell lost steam after a tough 26-24 loss in set one in a 3-0 loss to Hartford (5-3) in its second match of the day.
Burke led the Bison with eight kills, while Richards and Bullard finished with seven apiece. Buchholz and Holland each had six kills, while Alexa Bonanno tallied 26 assists.
The Bison took a 24-22 lead in the first set on a kill by Buchholz, but the Hawks scored four straight points to get the win.
Jenna Bridges had a huge match for Hartford, finishing with 21 kills and a .444 hitting percentage. She had 18 kills in a 3-0 win over Niagara and 16 kills in a 3-2 win over Brown earlier in the tournament.
