About the Bison
• Bucknell heads to Northville, Michigan, on Saturday to run in the 32nd Annual Running Fit-Detroit Mercy Titan Invitational. The Bison last competed at the event in 2016.
• Bison head coach Kevin Donner is a 1984 graduate of Detroit Mercy. He started this race in 1987 while working as the head coach of the Titans women's cross country team.
• This is the second meet of the season for Bucknell, which opened the year with the Bison Open last weekend. Payton Capes led Bucknell with a 12th-place finish.
• Five other Bison runners – Margaret Thomson (19th), Emily Deschler (22nd), Christine O'Kane (24th), Olivia Dyer (28th), and Nora Bennet (29th) – finished in the top 30.
• After running a 4k race last weekend, Bucknell will run a 5k race at Detroit Mercy.
Bucknell History at the Detroit Mercy Invitational
• The Bison have won six team titles at the event, winning in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2014, and 2016.
• Bucknell has had four individual winners at the meet – Leanna Nastase (2005), Caroline Tolli (2012), Katie Jessee (2014), and Kate Scott (2016).
• The 2016 title was the last time Bucknell competed at the meet. Three members of the current team finished in the top 10. Jenna Farmer was eighth, Lauren Gronbeck took ninth, and Christine O'Kane crossed the line in 10th.
Head Coach Kevin Donner Quote
"We will not be at full strength. We are being very careful with some of our athletes to make sure they are healthy to train and compete later this month. This will be a great opportunity for our depth to develop. I see this as an opportunity to race different teams than we usually see, and the course is a hilly cross country course that we like. It will be a great trip for some team bonding, as well."
Up Next
• The Bison will head to Boston to run at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday, Sept. 21.
