LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's basketball team's 2018-19 Patriot League schedule is now set, with the conference opener slated for Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Army West Point.
The Bison will be looking to continue a historic run of success in league play. They have captured four straight and seven of the last eight outright regular-season titles, and they went on to win the Patriot League Tournament crown in four of those eight seasons, including each of the last two. Since the start of the 2010-11 season, Bucknell is 106-26 (.803) in Patriot League play.
This year's 18-game Patriot League slate comes on the heels of another challenging non-league docket. The regular season concludes with a Senior Day home game against Army on Saturday, March 2, with the 2019 Patriot League Tournament set to begin the following week.
"The Patriot League schedule is always a challenge, and this year will be no different," said head coach Nathan Davis. "There are a lot of very good returning players, and the league is going to be strong from top to bottom. We hope that when all is said and done, we have given ourselves the opportunity to be one of the best teams in the league."
The Patriot League has announced a package of five Monday-night games that will air on CBS Sports Network, and Bucknell will appear twice on Monday nights -- Jan. 14 against Holy Cross and Feb. 11 against Lehigh --- both at Sojka Pavilion. The remainder of the Patriot League's CBS Sports Network schedule will be announced at a later date.
After beginning the league slate with back-to-back road games against Army and Boston University, the Bison will then play three in a row at home against Colgate (Jan. 9), American (Jan. 12) and Holy Cross, all in a span of five days from Jan. 9-14. The Colgate game will be a rematch of last year's Patriot League Tournament final, won by Bucknell 83-54. The American game will feature the team's annual Dirk Sojka's Slam Dunk with Bison Basketball fundraiser event, benefitting Suncom Industries.
Other conference home games will take place on Jan. 23 vs. Loyola, Jan. 30 vs. Navy, Feb. 9 vs. Boston University, Feb. 24 vs. Lafayette, and March 2 vs. Army. The Feb. 9 game will be a noon tip-off, and the contest will be followed by a women's game against Lafayette.
The Patriot League Tournament continues with the all-home-sites format again in 2019. The bottom four seeds will play first-round games on Tuesday, March 5, with quarterfinal games slated for Thursday, March 7. The two semifinal contests will be held at noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, followed by the championship game on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. CBS Sports Network will televise both semifinals and the championship.
Bucknell finished 25-10 overall and 16-2 in Patriot League play last season. The Bison made their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance, falling to Michigan State 82-78 in the first round in Detroit.
