RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Cayla Koch added two more singles wins Saturday to advance to the championship match of Flight 1 at the Bison Invite. She also teamed with junior Paige Leavy for two more wins to move to the title match in Flight 1 doubles. The tournament will conclude on Sunday at the Varsity Courts.
Koch improved to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 at the tournament with her two wins Saturday. She opened with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Villanova's Lexi DeNucci, a good sign of improvement for Koch as she avenged a straight-sets loss to DeNucci last season.
In the semifinal round, Koch shook off a 6-4 loss in the first set against Binghamton's Samara Eisenberg and took the next two, 6-3 and 10-6 to get the win. Eisenberg was Binghamton's top player in the lineup last season.
Koch and Leavy kept their perfect record intact at 7-0 with wins over teams from Villanova in both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. They will take on another team from Villanova when they play against Claudia Althans and Lindsey Evans on Sunday.
Sophomore Jill Auteri and freshman Daniela Bellini bounced back from a first-round loss in Flight 1 doubles with a pair of wins in the consolation bracket on Sunday, including a victory over Marist's Julia Gabay and Sam Galu. The Marist duo was voted First Team All-MAAC in doubles last season.
