LEWISBURG, Pa. – A post-game fireworks show, presented by Weis Markets, Silvertip Inc. and Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation, headlines the promotional slate at the Bucknell football team's home opener on Saturday at 6 p.m. against William & Mary.
Before the game, fans are invited to tailgate on the practice field by Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. New this year, Bucknell students can register for a tailgate spot at the Cap Center by 4 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the game.
As part of a new tradition, the team will walk through Christy's Gates at approximately 3:50 p.m.; the Bison will pass through the tailgating area on their way to the stadium, and fans are welcome to line up and cheer them on during their march.
The revamped Bison Fun Zone will include two inflatables, a dunk tank and face painting and glitter tattoos from Face Painting with TLC. Taking part in the dunk tank are the following: head women's basketball coach Aaron Roussell, head wrestling coach Dan Wirnsberger, associate head track & field coach Richard Alexander, assistant men's soccer coach Ross Liberati, assistant rowing coach Mari Sundbo, assistant field hockey coach Anna Wills and diving coach Errol Carter.
Bucknell will also celebrate its fundraising efforts for Vs. Cancer during its tilt with the Tribe, which doubles as the charitable organization's kick-off to childhood cancer awareness month. The Bison, who are the first collegiate football program at any level to team with Vs. Cancer, selected Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital to receive 50 percent of donation proceeds. The other 50 percent will be used to fund ground-breaking brain tumor research efforts through the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
As part of their partnership with Vs. Cancer, the Bison are excited to welcome five-year-old Levi Frantz and his family to the home opener. Frantz, a native of Lewisburg, underwent treatment to have a brain tumor removed at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.
In addition, Bucknell's home opener is Community Day, presented by M&T Bank. Multiple community organizations will be in attendance as part of that promotion.
Tickets are on sale at the Campus Box Office, starting at $10 for adults, $6 for children (13-18) and $6 for seniors (62+). Admission is free for Bucknell students as well as children between the ages of 0 and 12. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.bucknell.edu/boxoffice or by calling 570-577-1000.
