PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A day after qualifying for the Eastern Championship final at Penn Relays, the Bucknell men's 4x100 relay finished second and earned a top-10 program mark on Saturday at Franklin Field.
The men's 4x1 relay squad, which included Ryquan Harris, Jeffrey Brown, Alex Dessoye, and Billy Melchionni, placed second in a field of six with a time of 41.22. This Bison foursome beat their previous best of 41.64 from Saturday's preliminaries and moved all the way up to fifth on Bucknell's top-10 list.
UConn (40.93) claimed the top spot, while Bucknell finished .01 ahead of UMBC (41.23) for second place. Hampton, LIU Brooklyn, and Morgan State rounded out the top six. Bucknell now has the fourth-best time in the Patriot League this season.
"That's our fastest time of the year," head coach Kevin Donner said. "The group went almost a full half-second faster than yesterday, which is fantastic. We might be able to take a crack at our school record before the season ends."
The Bison also have a contingent of athletes participating in the Maroon and Gold Invitational, and then they will compete in the Patriot League Outdoor Championships May 4-5 at Lafayette.
