BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Bucknell's Ally Furano was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Player and Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Furano led the Bison with 15 points (11g-4a) in their final weekend of regular-season action. The freshman also drew seven ejections and posted three steals over the course of their four games.
Furano put together her most impressive offensive performance of her young career in Bucknell's 13-5 rout of George Washington. The freshman notched eight points on six goals and two assists. Her six goals were the most netted by a Bison in a single game this season; she also tied Emily Konishi, who recorded eight points (4g-4a) in Feb. 11's win over the Colonials, for Bucknell's season high in points.
Furano notched six of her points (4g-2a) during the Bison's contests against nationally ranked opponents. In the Bucknell's 9-8 upset of No. 19 Harvard, she posted a goal and two assists; she followed that up with a hat trick in a loss to No. 11 Princeton. She was the only Bison to enjoy a multi-point outing against the Tigers.
Furano shared Rookie of the Week laurels with George Washington's Alana Ponce. She will enter the CWPA Championships with 49 points (38g-11a).
Fifth-seeded Bucknell (13-17, 3-5 CWPA) next hosts the CWPA Championships on Friday, April 27 to Sunday, April 29. In the first round on Friday, the Bison will face fourth-seeded Indiana at 4:30 p.m. More information about the event will be available in the coming weeks.Â
