PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 12 Wagner held the Bucknell women's water polo team without a goal in the second half to earn an 11-5 victory at the Princeton Invitational on Sunday at DeNunzio Pool.
At halftime, the Bison (6-4, 0-0 CWPA) trailed the Seahawks (7-3, 0-0 MAAC) by a 7-5 margin. Early in the game, the Seahawks built a 4-1 lead; after Bucknell responded with three unanswered goals to even the score, Wagner netted two of its own to go up, 6-4.
Though Kali Hyham pulled the Bison back within a single strike, Erica Hardy quickly found the back of the net to kick off a 4-0 run that extended until the end of the game.
Hyham was one of five Bison goal scorers, joined by Colleen Barron, Ally Furano, Emily Konishi and Shyla Lintz. She also notched an assist and led the team with four ejections drawn.
Lintz contributed three ejections drawn while Gigi Rojahn led Bucknell with three steals. In net, Manuela Herrera made nine saves.
With their win over the Bison, the Seahawks went undefeated in Princeton Invitational action at 3-0. They also tied the Chinese National Team, 12-12, in an exhibition contest as part of the tournament.
Later in the day, Bucknell faced off against the Chinese National Team in an exhibition game. The Bison hung with the Chinese, who placed seventh at the most recent Olympic games, for most of the contest before ceding a 10-7 decision. The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game; the Chinese National Team extended its 5-3 halftime lead to a 9-5 edge by doubling up Bucknell, 4-2.
Herrera made eight saves while Konishi (1g-2a), Hyham (2g), Marta Considine (1g-1a), Barron (1g-1a) and Nina Benson (2a) enjoyed multi-point outings.
