Lewisburg, Pa. - Nicholas Lombardo was crowned the Patriot League Champion in the long jump on Saturday, and Jeffrey Brown set a school record in the 60-meter dash to lead the Bucknell men's track and field team to a fourth-place standing after the first day of competition at the Patriot League Indoor Championships at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
The Bison finished the first day with 34 points and sit in fourth place. Navy leads the way with 59, followed by Army West Point with 50 and Lehigh with 40.
At last year's championship meet, Lombardo was the winner in both the long jump and high jump events. He would not be denied the first half of that equation in his senior season, earning a first-place finish. In the long jump, Lombardo posted a mark of 24-1 ¾, becoming the third Bison to win the event in back-to-back indoor championship meets.
Appearing in the second Patriot League Indoor Championship of his collegiate career, Brown qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash by taking first with a school-record time of 6.81. He also set a personal best in the 200-meter dash, finishing in eighth place and making it to the finals by clocking in a 22.23.
In the field events, Matthew Fay and Nicholas Marino combined to earn the Bison nine points in the pole vault. Fay made it to the podium finishing third to earn a bronze medal with a new personal-best of 16-4 ¾. Marino placed sixth, clearing 15-9.
C.J. Falcioni had a great meet in the 35 lb. weight throw, finishing in sixth place and earning Bucknell three points with a toss of 59-11. Falcioni currently ranks sixth on Bucknell's all-time list. The Bison also had two sophomores in Ninh Liam (52-6 ½, ninth), and Hayden Lindsey (52-2 ½, 10th) finish in the top 10. Teammate Zach Ruiz placed 15th with a heave of 48-2 ½.
Bucknell's 4X800 relay team of Nick Pacelli, Brendan McGill, Scott Gulizio, and Sean Conway took fifth place and earned the Bison four points. Navy took first with a time of 7:39.29.
The Patriot League Indoor Championships will conclude on Sunday with points in 16 events up for grabs. The final day will stream on the Patriot League Network.
