Freshman scored 11 points in win over UNLV
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell freshman guard Andrew Funk earned his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor on Monday, in recognition of his career-best 11-point performance in a win over UNLV on Christmas Day.Â
Bucknell's lone appearance during the last calendar week came in the third-place game of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, and the Bison rolled to a 97-72 win over the Runnin' Rebels. Funk played a big role in the team's strong start. He hit his first three shots from beyond the 3-point arc and added a driving layup, giving him 11 first-half points as Bucknell ran out to a 47-30 halftime lead.Â
Funk has been a key rotation player in his first year with the Bison, and he has warmed up from long range after a slow start. The Warrington, Pa., native has made 10 of his last 20 3-point attempts and has at least one trey in five of his last seven games.Â
Bucknell point guard Jimmy Sotos earned a spot on this week's Patriot League Honor Roll after notching a tournament-record 12 assists to go along with 14 points in the win over UNLV. The 12 assists were the most by a Bison since Russell Peyton dished a school-record 16 against UMBC in 1991-92.Â
The Bison concluded non-conference play with a 6-6 record, and they will now turn their attention to the Patriot League schedule, which begins Wednesday at Army West Point. Funk will square off against his older brother, Tommy, who is Army's starting point guard.Â
