Lewisburg, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team won six events on Saturday to win the team title at the Gulden Invitational at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Gulden Invitational was changed to a scored meet in 2012, and the Bison men have won the title every year since.
“I was very pleased with how our men's team performed. It looks like our technical events are starting to develop after the long break, and it was good to be in a scored meet. Our depth enabled us to win both meets handily. We do need to get some of our hurt people back in the next week or two if we want to be ready at leagues,” Head Coach Kevin Donner said.
Alex Dessoye had one of the standout performances on Saturday, placing first in the 400-meter dash, beating out 16 runners with an IC4A qualifying time of 49.24. Steven Rizio and Matthew Barton also scored in the race, placing fourth and seventh, respectively.
In the mile, William Bordash picked up his first win of the season, finishing in 4:21.15. Bucknell claimed three of the top four spots in the event, as Connor McMenamin and James Weissenborn placed second and fourth, respectively.
Freshman Nicholas Marino took care of business in the pole vault, clearing 15-9 and qualified for IC4A's. Marino vaulted into a tie for fourth on the all-time top-10 list with his performance. Nicholas Lombardo finished first in the high jump and long jump events. In the long jump, Lombardo qualified for IC4As after leaping 23-05 ¼.
Reggie Harris took the top spot in the triple jump after jumping an impressive 46-06 feet. In the 4X400 meter relay, a team of Alex Dessoye, Steven Rizio, Robert Dessoye and Scott Gulizio just missed qualifying for IC4As by two one-hundredths of a second with a time of 3:23.10.
In the 4X800 meter relay, a team of Brendan McGill, Owen Concaugh, Kyle Adams, and Nick Pacelli finished second clocking in at 8:08.18.
C.J. Falcioni took second in a field of 18 in the 35 lb. weight throw with a toss of 54-04 ½. It was a new personal best for the sophomore from Seymour, Connecticut.
