LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior pitcher Mike Castellani was named Corvias Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, announced by the league office. The lefty combined to pitch 14 innings over two starts, posting an ERA of 0.64.
Castellani took a no decision after 5.0 innings of work in a start at Penn State, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. The Nittany Lions went on to win the game by a 4-3 decision in extra innings.
The lefty pitcher followed up his performance at Penn State by tossing a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 win over Cornell. He scattered three hits, while striking out four in the first complete game of his career. Castellani is the first pitcher to hold Cornell scoreless this spring and the first Patriot League pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout this season.
This year, Castellani is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA in five starts. He has 26 strikeouts, which ranks second on the team and is tied for fifth in the league.
Keifer Rawlings was an honorable mention after batting .375 with four runs and two RBIs during Bucknell's five-game week. Rawlings hit the game-winning home run in the win over the Big Red, extending his hitting streak to seven games.
Rawlings is second on the team in batting average (.309) this spring and second in RBIs (14). The junior's 14 RBIs rank ninth in the Patriot League.
Bucknell opens league play Apr. 1-2 with four games at Lehigh. Each game will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
