LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Meghan Kovac has been named the Corvias Patriot League Softball Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday. The junior earns the award for the first time this season after leading the Bison to a 4-1 record at the Winthrop/Adidas Tournament this past weekend.
Kovac hit .500 (9-18) with two doubles, a home run, and seven RBIs, helping the Bison to wins over North Carolina Central, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, and Mount St. Marys, and an extra-inning loss to Winthrop.
Kovac had multiple hits in four of the five games, including a 3-for-4 showing with a double and two RBIs in a 7-4 win over East Tennessee State. She blasted her second home run of the season in the team's 4-0 shutout over Mount St. Mary's in the final game.
Bucknell's 8-2 start is its best record through 10 games since opening with the same record during the 1993 season. That team went on to finish 27-8 and advanced to the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament.
The Bison return to action with four games this weekend at the Colonial Classic in Washington, D.C., on Saturday and Sunday. They will play Quinnipiac, Monmouth (twice), and host George Washington.
