Wright Records Big Win, But Men's Tennis Drops Match to James Madison

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Bucknell junior Daniel Wright registered a big win at No. 1 singles, but the Bison lost to James Madison 6-1 in a non-conference neutral-site match at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center.
Wright improved to 8-9 with his first win of the spring, beating Theophile Lanthiez 6-1, 6-2. Lanthiez is in his first season with the Dukes after transferring from Old Dominion, which was a top-50 ranked team during his time there.
Wright upped his career singles record to 55-35, moving into a tie for 10th on Bucknell's all-time wins list.
The doubles point went down to the wire after senior Bryan Adams and junior Timber Erskine evened the score with a 6-3 victory on court two. Junior Ben Gerber and Wright battled tough on court two, but James Madison secured the point with a 7-6 (2) win.
“We had a good opportunity to really pounce on a much-improved James Madison team, but losing the doubles point in a tiebreaker seemed to kill our momentum,” Bucknell head coach Bruce Myers said. “Kudos to Dan Wright, who played his best match of the spring.”
James Madison improved to 3-2 overall with its second consecutive victory, while Bucknell dropped to 1-7. The Bison will face another challenging opponent when they play at Penn State on Sunday at 5 p.m.
