LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell Athletics and its multimedia rights holder, Learfield's Bucknell Sports Properties, announced today the return of a regional television partnership with WQMY-TV. The Bucknell men's basketball home games against Vermont (Dec. 2), La Salle (Dec. 22) and Holy Cross (Jan. 20) will be televised on WQMY, which is available on cable and satellite systems throughout Northeast and Central Pennsylvania.
Former Bucknell point guard Abe Badmus '07, who was one of the catalysts of the back-to-back Patriot League championship teams in 2005 and 2006, will return as color analyst on the broadcasts, working alongside play-by-play announcer Joe Vasile.
“I'm thrilled to be a part of Bucknell's basketball program and what I believe is going to be a very special season,” said Badmus. “What the university and Learfield has allowed me to do speaks volumes about their commitment to extending the Bison brand.”
The production also will be simulcast online through the Patriot League Network (PatriotLeague.TV). The Bison are the returning Patriot League regular-season and tournament champions, and they made their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance last March. Bucknell has the returning Patriot League Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in senior center Nana Foulland, and the Bison are the preseason favorites in the Patriot League this year.
“We have identified a television partner that helps us strengthen the Bison brand in other areas throughout the state, where we know we have a deep fan base,” said Mike Trudnak, general manager for Bucknell Sports Properties, Learfield's local team that oversees all aspects of the rights agreement and corporate partnership platform. “These live basketball games mean a lot to the university community, fans, sponsors and student-athletes as we help ultimately grow the Bucknell brand and presence throughout the Northeast.”
The three games televised on WQMY will be sponsored by Fairfield Auto, Wendy's, and Visit Myrtle Beach.
The WQMY package adds to an already extensive schedule of televised games in 2017-18. The Bison have already appeared on ESPN3 and the SEC Network in the season's opening weekend. Wednesday's game at defending national champion North Carolina will air on the ACC Network (ESPN3/WatchESPN), followed by an appearance on the Big Ten Network when Bucknell travels to Maryland on Saturday night.
CBS Sports Network will televise at least four of Bucknell's regular-season games, plus the Patriot League semifinals and championship game. The Bison will also have at least four other games televised “over the air” on StadiumTV (Jan. 11 vs. Lehigh, Jan. 17 at Loyola, Feb. 3 vs. Lafayette, Feb. 21 vs. Navy).
All remaining Patriot League games will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network at PatriotLeague.tv.
