LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Meghan Kovac and Amanda Fazio were two of just three Patriot League players to land spots on the Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) Division I Softball All-Star Team. Both players earned the honor for the first time in their career, with Kovac making the First Team and Fazio being voted to the Second Team.
Kovac had an outstanding sophomore season for the Bison, tying for the league lead in batting average at .399. A First Team All-Patriot League selection, she smashed the program record for doubles in a season with 20, easily breaking the previous high of 15. Statistically, she posted one of the best all-around seasons in Bucknell history, finishing with the second most hits in a season (67), second most RBIs (40) and sixth most home runs (6).
Fazio, a First Team All-Patriot League pitcher, may have added First Team All-ECAC honors, but was at the most competitive position on the ballot. Both players that finished in front of her in the voting were First Team All-Americans. The lefty hurler finished the 2016 season with a league best 137 strikeouts and 1.81 ERA. The senior made 25 starts in the circle, while making a total of 34 appearances, and collected a 15-12 record. Offensively, she finished with the second best batting average on the team with 59 hits and a .347 average and also swiped 23 bases on 27 attempts. Fazio was named the Patriot League Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the end of the season.
Kovac and Fazio were joined on the ECAC All-Star team by Army West Point's Kasey McCravey, who was a First Team selection at third base.
Bucknell finished with a 27-23 overall record and an 11-7 mark in league play. The Bison qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
