LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's track and field junior Luke Giugliano was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Third Team, announced on Friday. It is Giugliano's first Academic All-America honor, and he is the first Bucknell men's track and field athlete to be recognized since David Mante in 2008.
Giugliano is the third Bucknell student-athlete this academic year to earn All-America honors, joining Matt DelMauro of the football team and Jesse Klug of the men's soccer program. Bucknell has now earned 129 all-time Academic All-America citations, which ranks fifth nationally.
A mechanical engineering major with a perfect 4.0 GPA this past spring, Giugliano earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the first time, while being named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team during the indoor season. He has made Bucknell's Dean List multiple times and is a three-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Giugliano has contributed as a member of both the cross country and track and field squads. This year, he won the 3,000-meter race at the Gulden Invitational, while scoring in both the 3,000 and 5,000 events at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. The distance runner also earned All-East honors with a runner-up finish in the 5,000 at the IC4A Championships.
Off the track, Giugliano served as a software engineer at Lockheed Martin, where he developed a user interface for accessing live video data from drones, while learning new programming languages. The junior was also a vehicle dynamics research fellow on campus.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America recognition, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team.
