LEWISBURG, Pa. – After a fantastic weekend at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, Bucknell senior Sophia Nnadi has been named Fifth Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week.
Nnadi reached the podium in all three events she competed in this weekend to help the Bucknell women's track and field team to its second-straight Patriot League outdoor title and its sixth championship in the last eight years.
Nnadi began the weekend Friday with a first-place finish in the hammer. The senior beat out 21 throwers with a toss of 180-8 to earn First All-Patriot League honors. The throw shatters her previous personal-best of 170-10 and ranks third in program history.
On Saturday, Nnadi earned All-PL accolades in the shot put, finishing second with a throw of 45-7 ¼. The senior wrapped up her day by winning the bronze medal in the discus with a toss of 144-9.
Nnadi was one of four Bison women to win a title at the championship meet. Jen Silvestri took first in the 100 hurdles with a record-setting time. Silvestri crossed the line in 1:00.63, breaking the previous school record of 1:00.82 set by Khadija Shariff in 2001.
Kate Scott won her second-consecutive outdoor 10,000 title, crossing the line in 36:01.18. Sarah Chandler won the 1,500 championship, completing the event in 4:28.02. The time is a personal-record and ranks third in school history.
Several members of the Bucknell track and field program will return to action Friday-Sunday (May 13-15) to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships at Princeton.
