LEWISBURG, Pa. – Christine Bendzinski won the 1,500-meter title Sunday as the Bucknell women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the ECAC Championships at Princeton's Weaver Stadium. The Bison finished a program-best third out of 55 schools at the three-day meet, while scoring a team-record 38 points.
After advancing past the preliminaries Saturday, Bendzinski won the event Sunday with a time of 4:24.11. Bendzinski joins Melanie Buczko (pole vault) and Kate Scott (10,000) as the only athletes to win an individual title at the meet in program history.
Two Bison throwers earned All-East honors in the shot put on Sunday. Abigail Brundage finished fourth with a toss of 45-4 ½, while Sophia Nnadi took sixth with a heave of 44-4 ¼.
“It was a fantastic weekend for the women,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “A third-place finish and 38 points are team records and having two individual champions is incredible. This really caps off a fantastic year for our women.”
Bucknell will now turn its attention to the NCAA East Regional meet, which will be held in Jacksonville, Florida on May 26-28.
