LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team ran its winning streak to four straight matches with a 4-1 victory over visiting Morgan State at the Gerhard Fieldhouse on Thursday. The Bison improved to 10-5 overall, recording double-digit wins in a season for the first time since 2013.
Bucknell has won six of its past seven matches. The Bison haven't allowed more than one team point in four of those contests.
In addition to the team's winning streak, senior Maria Cioffi kept her individual streak alive, winning for the 11th straight match. It wasn't easy however, as she needed three sets to beat Chloe Kabamba 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 1 singles. Cioffi improved to 21-4 overall and 12-2 in the spring.
Sophomore Madeline Melch also prevailed in three sets while playing at No. 4 singles. She fell 7-5 in the first set to Cierra Plummer, but came back to win with 6-4, 10-7 scores.
Sophomore Lisa Jouravleva's 6-4, 6-3 win over Danielle Thompson at No. 2 singles clinched the victory for the Bison. Thompson entered with a 13-4 record this spring.
Bucknell won both of the contested doubles matches. Cioffi and junior Michele Urbinati were 6-3 winners at No. 1, while Jouravleva and freshman Lauren Fishbein prevailed 6-3 at No. 2.
The Bison return to the league portion of their schedule when they travel to play Lafayette on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. at the Tennis Zone & Fitness Center in Quakertown, Pennsylvania.
