LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's rowing team is predicted to finish in first place at May's Patriot League Championships according to the Patriot League Preseason Poll, which the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. With 10 first-place votes, the Bison received more than half of the overall total. Defending champion Navy and Boston U. received four first-place votes apiece.
Bucknell captured seven consecutive Patriot League titles from 2006 to 2012, but Navy (2013, 2015) and Boston U. (2014) have won the last three. The Bison have finished second twice and third once during that span.
The preseason poll is close at the top with Bucknell earning 120 points, Navy 114 and Boston U. 104. Holy Cross (82 points), Georgetown and MIT are predicted to finish in the middle third of the standings, while Lehigh, Colgate and Loyola are expected to finish seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
The preseason poll is compiled from votes from the league's head women's rowing coaches and sports information directors.
This year's Patriot League Championships are slated for Friday, May 13, at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts. The winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
