HERSHEY, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team won for the fourth time in its last matches, posting a 4-0 victory over visiting Colgate on Sunday at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Bison improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League.
“We got off to a rocky start at first, falling behind on courts one, two and three, before making a run and a comeback on all three courts,” said Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt. “Once they found a rhythm, there was no looking back. The adjustments they made were very impressive.”
Senior Maria Cioffi continued her domination of Patriot League opponents with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. She is 26-6 against conference opponents during her career, including 18-2 mark in dual matches. Dating back to her freshman season, she has a 17-match winning streak in conference dual matches.
Cioffi added a win at No. 1 doubles, teaming with Michele Urbinati for an easy 6-0 victory. Stephanie Pino and Emilie Bush clinched the doubles point for Bucknell with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Cioffi's win at No. 1 singles clinched the match for the Bison. Prior to that, Urbinati recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3, and Madeline Melch was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 4.
Bucknell continues league play with another home match when it hosts Lehigh on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Cioffi and Pino will be honored for Senior Day prior to the match.
