LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's rowing team hosted a busy day on the Susquehanna River this past Saturday as it welcomed Eastern Michigan and Canisius to Central Pennsylvania for a pair of scrimmages, and also celebrated the careers of eight Bison seniors during Senior Day ceremonies.
With the best weather of the spring so far serving as a backdrop, Bucknell and Eastern Michigan opened the day with their scrimmage. The Bison varsity eight won three of the four pieces that were 3 minutes and 30 seconds in length.
In between the two scrimmages, eight Bison rowers were recognized during Senior Day ceremonies. Kendall Balasiano, Charlotte Brace, Angelina Heyse, Maya Martignetti, Amanda McCabe, Sierra McCarron, Kathryn Oram and Sarah Shochat were the seniors honored. In a special touch, eight women's rowing alumnae who were back to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the program's first Patriot League title in 2006 read special citations to introduce each senior.
The alumnae who came back and had a chance to row on the Susquehanna River again were: Sophie Bird, Kate Brewster-Duffy, Julie Curtis, Kelly Henkler, Page Kannor, Jayne Kubat, Carol Schoenecker and Jennie Trayes.
In the afternoon, the Bison rowed against Canisius and again the Bucknell varsity eight won three of the four pieces.
Saturday's event was the first of two home scrimmage dates for the Bison, who will host Fordham in a scrimmage Sunday (April 24). Bucknell is also in action this Saturday (April 23) when it travels to Lake Carnegie to face Dartmouth, Penn and Princeton.
