Women's Tennis Opens League Play with 6-1 Win Over Loyola

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team won both of the completed doubles matches and five of six in singles in an easy 6-1 win over visiting Loyola in its Patriot League opener on Saturday. The Bison upped their record to 7-5 overall, surpassing last season's win total, and are 1-0 in the Patriot League.
Bucknell jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles. Maria Cioffi and Michele Urbinati were 6-2 winners at No. 1, while Stephanie Pino and Emilie Bush posted a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
Cioffi won for the eighth straight time in singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1. The great stretch of results has her record at an impressive 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the spring.
All five of Bucknell's singles wins came in straight sets, including a 7-6 (5), 6-1 by senior co-captain Stephanie Pino at No. 6. She moved to 5-2 in the spring. Freshman Mishi Papich, who improved to 6-3, also had one of her sets go to a tiebreaker before winning 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Lauren Fishbein and Michele Urbinati easily won their matches at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Fishbein cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 victory, while Urbinati tolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Bucknell continues league play when it hosts Colgate on Sunday. The match is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Hershey Racquet Club.
