LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Amanda Fazio has been named the Corvias Patriot League Pitcher of the Week after her performance in games against Penn State and Boston University last week. The senior has won the award four times this season.
In two games against Boston University, Fazio gave up just three hits and three runs across 13 innings of work, while striking out 12 and walking just one. Earlier in the week, she also pitched five innings against Penn State, scattering five hits and allowing just two runs. She finished the week with a 1.94 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
Bucknell looks to get back on track when it travels to Loretto, Pennsylvania for a doubleheader against Saint Francis at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Both games can be seen free of charge at NECFrontRow.com. The Bison opened the 2016 season with a 5-3 win over the Red Flash at East Carolina's Pirate Clash.
Despite losses in six of its past seven games, Bucknell is still four games over .500 with a record of 22-18. Two of those six losses came to Penn State, while another two came to Army West Point, which sits in second place in the Patriot League.
The Bison are coming off a 1-2 showing in a league series at Boston University this past weekend. Freshman Anna Gimmestad launched her first career home run to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning of a 5-1 win in the second game. She added an RBI single as the Bison added four more runs in the seventh inning.
Saint Francis enters at 24-17 overall, including a 5-1 mark in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash are coming off a doubleheader sweep of league foe Sacred Heart. They also have four wins against Patriot League opponents with two over Army West Point and two over Lafayette, while Bucknell is their only loss against the league.
The Red Flash are a dangerous offensive team. They have already broke the program's record for runs in a season with 267. That is 105 more than any other team in the Northeast Conference. They also lead their league in doubles (63), triples (8) and home runs (47). Jordan Seneca leads the way with 11 home runs, while Hayley Norton is right behind her with 10.
Bucknell leads 28-18 in the all-time series with Saint Francis. The Bison have won five straight over the Red Flash, including a doubleheader sweep at home last season.
On the schedule for the Bison after Saint Francis is a three-game Patriot League series at Colgate on Saturday and Sunday. The teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday and one game at noon on Sunday.
