LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's water polo senior Hannah Sunday (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was named the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. The three-year starter at center was a key part in the Bison's two wins over ranked opponents this past weekend as she was named Bison Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career.
Bucknell (16-14, 4-3 CWPA) posted victories over No. 18 Harvard and No. 15 Princeton this past weekend, helping it earn the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CWPA Championship. The wins were the first two for the Bison over ranked foes this season, and the victory against Princeton marked the first for Bucknell since 2010. All four of the Bison's opponents this past weekend were nationally ranked as they also faced No. 6 Michigan and No. 13 Indiana.
Sunday totaled eight goals, one steal and 17 ejections drawn in the four games. Perhaps her best outing came against Princeton when she posted five goals and four ejections drawn, helping Bucknell cap the weekend with a 10-9 victory. Sunday's five goals were the most by a Bison this season and her most since she scored a school-record-tying seven goals last February.
Sunday, who leads Bucknell with a career-high 67 goals this season, scored a team-high three goals in Sunday's first game, a two-goal loss to Indiana.
With her 17 ejections drawn this weekend, Sunday now has 42 over the last two weeks, a span of seven games. Her team-best 116 ejections drawn this season place her second on the program's single-season list behind only her record total of 120 from two years ago. Sunday owns the career ejections drawn standard by a wide margin, totaling 375 in her four years, 82 more than previous record holder Valentina Rozas.
Sunday's 67 goals place her in a tie for fifth place on the program's single-season list, while her 192 career goals rank sixth in program history.
Bucknell, which has its most wins (16) since 2010, will next be in action next Friday, April 29, when it opens the CWPA Championship against No. 6 seed Hartwick at 3 p.m.
