LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Nicholas Lombardo and senior John Westwood earned Patriot League weekly awards Monday, following impressive performances at the Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Lombardo set the school record in the high jump Saturday, taking second out of 15 with a leap of 6-11. The leap breaks the previous mark set by Drew Fitzgerald in 2009 (6-10 ¾) and qualifies him for the IC4A Championships. The sophomore now holds the top mark in both the indoor and outdoor event.
Lombardo followed up his performance with a new top-10 program mark in the long jump on Sunday. Lombardo took fourth in the event with a leap of 23-5 ½, which also meets the IC4A standard. His jump is also atop the leaderboard in the Patriot League this season.
Westwood finished fifth out of 59 in the 1,500-meter, completing the event with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:45.04. His performance now ranks third on the all-time program list and is the fastest time in the Patriot League by nearly a second.
Matthew Fay was an honorable mention, following his first-place finish in the pole vault. Fay won the event with a height of 16-2 ¾, which ranks second in the Bucknell record book. His mark was ¾-short of tying the program record.
Bucknell will be back at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for the Bucknell Team Challenge, a one-day event, on Saturday.
