LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team is set to play two matches on the road this weekend. Highlighting the weekend is a key Patriot League match at Navy on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Bison will also travel for a non-conference matchup at Towson on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Bucknell is in the middle of an impressive stretch of play with wins in seven of its past eight matches. The Bison are 13-6 overall and are 4-1 in the Patriot League, fueled by their first ever 4-0 start in league play.
Senior Maria Cioffi has led the way for the Bison as she continues to beat every Patriot League opponent thrown her way. She has won 14 straight matches this spring, five of which have come over conference opponents. Three of those players were named either First or Second Team All-Patriot League last season.
Cioffi is now 21-2 in Patriot League dual matches, including the postseason tournament, during her career. She hasn't lost since her freshman season, accumulating 20 straight wins against conference opponents. She hasn't played lower than No. 2 singles during that stretch.
Cioffi will have a chance to knock off a fourth All-League selection in the match against Navy on Saturday. She is expected to square off against Amanda Keller, a Second Team honoree last season. Keller is 9-9 at No. 1 singles this season, including a 3-2 record in the conference.
Bucknell is coming off a dominant 7-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. The Bison lost just one game in the entire match. Joining Cioffi with singles victories were Lisa Jouravleva, Lauren Fishbein, Michele Urbinati, Madeline Melch and Danielle Gannon.
