Women's Tennis Notches 13th Win with Shutout Over Maryland Eastern Shore

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team was nearly perfect in a 7-0 win over visiting Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. The Bison won by shutout in all three doubles matches and dropped just one game total in the six singles contests.
Bucknell improved to 13-6 on the season, already a seven-win improvement over its record from a year ago. The Bison have won seven of their past eight matches, including five by shutout.
The Bison rolled through the three doubles matches to pick up the first point. The teams of Maria Cioffi/Michele Urbinati, Lauren Fishbein/Lisa Jouravleva and Danielle Gannon/Madeline Melch all won 6-0.
Bucknell was just as dominant in singles, including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Gannon. It was the first spring dual victory of the freshman's career after posting a 5-6 record during fall tournaments.
Cioffi won her match at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. She moved her winning streak to an incredible 14 matches, while upping her spring record to 15-2.
Jouravleva (No. 2), Fishbein (No. 3) and Melch (No. 5) also shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Urbinati was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles.
Maryland Eastern Shore fell to 0-13 on the season.
Bucknell has a huge match up next as it closes out the Patriot League portion of its regular season schedule. The Bison can help improve their seeding in the conference tournament when they play at Navy on Saturday at 11 a.m.
