BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The Bucknell women's golf team is hosting an event at Boulder Creek Golf Club for the second time this spring, and the Bison got started with a strong 36 holes on Monday. Bucknell turned in rounds of 319 and 315 to sit fifth in a field of 11 teams. Freshman Katie Childers shot 75-77 and is tied for 12th place with 18 holes still to come on Tuesday.
Childers is not the only Bison in the top 20. Jen Lee also posted two rounds in the 70s (79-76) and is tied for 18th. Also for Bucknell, Emily Larson shot 81-80, Eunbbie Kim carded 84-82, and Lindsay Dodovich shot 85-84.
Childers' 152 is the best 36-hole total of her young career, bettering her 154 in her collegiate debut at Kingsmill back in September.
No. 23 UNLV has a huge lead in the team standings. The Rebels posted 279-283 for a 36-hole total of 14-under-par 562. All five UNLV starters are in the top eight on the leaderboard, and that does not count tournament leader Elizabeth Prior, who shot 64-69 as an individual for a sizzling 11-under 133 total.
Boston University is second in the team standings at 597, led by Emily Tillo's opening-round 68. Northern Colorado is third at 608, followed by Eastern Washington (629), Bucknell (634), Saint Francis (Pa.) (651), North Dakota (663), Presbyterian (663), Idaho State (680), Holy Cross (730) and Southern New Hampshire (776).
The third and final round gets underway at 7 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start. The Bison will be paired with Eastern Washington and Saint Francis.
