Baseball Falls by 14-2 Score at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Bucknell baseball team made the trip north to Binghamton for a non-league game Tuesday at the Sports Complex and lost by a 14-2 score to the Bearcats. Binghamton totaled seven extra-base hits, including two home runs, as it scored three runs in the fourth inning, seven run in the fifth inning and four more runs in the eighth inning.
Bucknell (7-13) was outhit just 12-10, but the Bison's only runs came on a one-out homer by Danny Rafferty in the sixth and a two-out pinch hit RBI double by Aaron Fritz in the ninth. Mark Powell was 2-for-2 to lead the Bucknell offense in hits, while Brett Smith was 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
Both teams used eight pitchers in the game. The Bison pitchers issued eight walks, while Binghamton's hurlers walked just one Bucknell hitter.
Making his second career start, freshman Jack Grabek (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bison. He pitched 4.0 innings and allowed three hits and three runs while striking out three and walking four. Reliever Jack Schoenberger was the only other Bucknell pitcher to go at least one full inning (1.0 IP).
Binghamton starter Nick Gallagher (1-2) earned his first career win. He allowed just one hit and pitched to the minimum six batters in his 2.0 innings of work. Seven relievers pitched one inning apiece behind him.
There were a total of 29 substitutions in the game.
The Bison will return home for a four-game series vs. Yale this weekend. Doubleheaders both days begin at noon. Sunday's contests will have a live audio broadcast available via BucknellBison.com and will also air on WVBU 90.5 FM.
