LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's basketball team improved to 16-6 overall and 10-1 in the Patriot League with a pair of wins last week. On Monday, two players were rewarded for their performances as freshman guard Kate Walker was named the Lids Team Sports Rookie of the Week, and junior forward Claire DeBoer was selected as the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week.
Walker had a standout week, helping Bucknell notch wins over American and Holy Cross to stay tied atop of the Patriot League standings with Army West Point. The freshman reached double-digits in scoring for the first time in her collegiate career, netting eight of her 11 points in overtime to help lift the Bison to a 60-54 overtime win over the Eagles on Wednesday. She then posted career-highs in points (15) and rebounds (7) in a 74-64 win over the Crusaders on Saturday. Walker finished the week averaging 13.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.0 spg, with a .400 FG%, .400 3P%, and .830 FT%.
It is the first Patriot League Rookie of the Week award of Walker's career. She is the third Bison player to receive the honor this season, the first time the program has accomplished that feat since 2005-06. Kaitlyn Slagus and Kyi English are the other two Bucknell players to win the award this year.
DeBoer collected a total of 42 points across two games last week. The junior scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting in the win over American, and then added 17 points and six assists in the win over Holy Cross. DeBoer ranks second in the Patriot League in scoring at 16.0 points per game.
The Bison are 10-1 in league play for the first time since the 2006-07 season. They will look to keep the momentum going with a key away game against third-place Lehigh on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
