Women's Tennis Bounces Back with 6-1 Win Over Saint Francis

MONROEVILLE, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team bounced back from a season-opening loss with a big 6-1 win over Saint Francis on Saturday at The Club Sport and Health. Freshman Lauren Fishbein wrapped up a perfect weekend in singles and doubles, helping the Bison improve to 1-1.
“We played much better and were much more confident today,” said Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt. “The talent is there; we just need to get more matches under our belt. It was good to get this win from a solid team that beat us last year.”
Fishbein improved to 2-0 in singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Raksha Bode at No. 3, and to 2-0 in doubles while teaming with Lisa Jouravleva for a win at the No. 2 spot. The pair defeated Bode and Dani Gryckiewicz 7-5.
Fishbein was one of five winners in singles for Bucknell. Maria Cioffi (No. 1), Jouravleva (No. 2), Michele Urbinati (No. 4) and Mishi Papich (No. 5) all won in straight sets. Papich's win was her first career win in the spring season for the Bison.
Bucknell clinched the doubles point for the second straight day, taking two of the three matches. Joining Jouravleva and Fishbein with a doubles win were Cioffi and Michele Urbinati with an exciting 7-6 win at the top flight. They defeated Rafaela Panizza and Brittany Plaszewski.
The win came over a Saint Francis team that dealt Bucknell a 4-2 loss last season. Cioffi and Jouravleva recorded singles wins in that match, as well.
The Bison are the fourth Patriot League opponent of the season for the Red Flash, who posted a win over Lafayette and suffered losses to Navy and Lehigh.
Bucknell will head to New York for two matches next week. The Bison will play at Niagara on Saturday and at St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
