LEWISBURG, Pa. – The final weekend of the regular season is upon the Bucknell wrestling team. The Bison will wrap up a six-match road stretch this weekend with duals at Binghamton (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Columbia (Saturday at 1 p.m.).
There will be a live video broadcast of Friday's dual via AmericaEast.tv.
Bucknell (10-6, 4-3 EIWA), which has reached double figures in victories in three straight years for the first time in program history, recently captured a season-best four matches in a row before suffering a tight one-point loss at Penn on Sunday.
The Bison are a combined 10-5 all-time against Binghamton and Columbia. Bucknell defeated the Lions 29-12 in Lewisburg last January and lost to the Bearcats 18-16 in the final home match of the 2014-15 campaign.
Five Bison – Paul Perov, Tyler Smith, Rustin Barrick, Tom Sleigh, Joe Stolfi – continue to be listed in the national rankings by Intermat, WrestlingReport.com or FloWrestling. Petrov and Stolfi appear in all three rankings.
Binghamton has two nationally ranked wrestlers in its projected lineup for Friday, while Columbia has four.
Stolfi has been putting together an impressive season for Bucknell since returning from injury in late December. The three-time NCAA qualifier is 16-1 with 10 wins by fall, ranking him fifth nationally. He has won 11 consecutive bouts and his 115 career victories place him fourth in program history, just three wins behind third-place Bobby Ferraro.
Petrov brings a six-match winning streak into the weekend. He missed matches last weekend against American and George Mason, but returned to the lineup Sunday against Penn and won by major decision. Petrov leads the team with 26 wins this season and his 104 career victories place him eighth on the program's all-time list.
Smith and Lopez joined Stolfi as Bison to post 3-0 records last weekend. Smith has won five bouts in a row and seven of his last eight. He is 19-9 on the year with 12 bonus-point victories. Lopez has bounced back from a brief four-bout losing streak to win a season-high-tying four in row. He is 11-1 in bonus-point bouts this year.
Following this weekend's duals, Bucknell will prepare for the EIWA Championships, which are slated for March 5-6 at Princeton. The Bison finished in third place in the team standings at last year's EIWA Championships.
