LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell track and field will host its third event of the indoor season with the Bucknell Tune-Up on Friday as the team prepares for the Patriot League Championships. The Bison will be joined by Bloomsburg, Gettysburg, Lehigh, Seton Hill and Shippensburg.
“We have a lot of different missions for this meet,” says head coach Kevin Donner. “For some, it's a pure tune up meet for next week. For others, it's a chance to try and prove themselves to get into the discussion to make our league lineup. A few athletes will rest and others are competing indoors for the last time and want to end their indoor season on a high note. I will be evaluating every event and gauging how the performances affect the league championships.”
Both the men's and women's teams have athletes that seem to be peaking at the right time, as several members had fantastic performances at the Youngstown State National Invitational.
Sophia Nnadi earned Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week honors after recording a heave of 47-10 in the shot put, falling short of the school record by ¾. Her toss ranks 11th in the region for the year.
The Bison women won five individuals title at the meet, including Nora Adams (5,000m), Christine Bendzinski (3,000m), Jess Bridle (400m), Sarah Chandler (mile) and Emma Harris (800m).
For the second-straight year at the meet, Nicholas Lombardo earned the top spot in the long jump, beating out 33 jumpers with a leap of 23-1 ¼. He also finished as the runner-up in the triple jump with a jump of 46-2 ½.
Matthew Fay won the pole vault title, clearing 16-0 ¾. His performance is the third-best effort in program history.
The Bison will travel to Boston, Massachusetts for the Patriot League Indoor Championships next weekend. Boston University will host the event, which will take place from Feb. 19-21.
