LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's water polo team won the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference East Region regular-season title with a 9-1 league record and it was announced this week the Bison are the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference championship, which will take place Nov. 18-20 at Kinney Natatorium.
Bucknell (20-4) will face eighth-seeded Connecticut College (11-15) in the tournament's first game on Friday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. Semifinals are slated for Nov. 19 at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., while the title game is scheduled for Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m.
The victor of the tournament earns the MAWPC's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. Due to the NCAA's 2016 format, in which five automatic bids were awarded (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference, Northeast Water Polo Conference, Western Water Polo Association, Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) with two teams selected at-large, the MAWPC will likely end up in a play-in game against the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Champion to qualify for a play-in game to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship "Final Four" field at the Spieker Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of California,
For fans unable to make the trip to Lewisburg for the tournament, the CWPA will stream all 12-games of the championship on a pay-per-view basis. Fans can access the games through the CWPA Portal.
Bucknell, which is currently ranked 13th nationally, will enter the championship event on a six-game winning streak. The Bison have reached 20 victories in a season for the first time since 2007.
