LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's water polo team has been in action six weekends this year and after five of those freshman Rade Joksimovic (Novi sad, Serbia/Gimnazija Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj) has been named the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Rookie of the Week. He earned his latest award on Wednesday when he shared Rookie of the Week honors with Gannon's Jack Donnelly.
Joksimovic now has 11 total weekly awards this season. In addition to earning Rookie of the Week honors five times, he has been named conference Player of the Week three times, conference Defensive Player of the Week once and Bison Athlete of the Week twice.
Joksimovic totaled 20 goals, six assists, six steals and six ejections drawn as the Bison posted a 2-1 record last weekend. Bucknell, which moved up from 13th to 10th in the latest national poll on Wednesday, defeated Princeton and Iona and lost a close game to host Harvard at the Harvard Invitational.
The highlight of the weekend for Joksimovic was his 12-goal output in the 23-6 win over Iona. It tied him for second on Bucknell's single-game goals list and he became the first Bison player to register at least 10 goals in a game since Josh Watts set the program record of 13 in 1999 vs. Washington & Jefferson. Joksimovic is tied for second place with Sean Tierney, who totaled 12 goals against Johns Hopkins in 1994.
Joksimovic, whose previous high for goals in a game was nine at Navy last month, opened the weekend with three goals and two assists in the win over Princeton. He followed that with five goals and three assists against Harvard. Joksimovic led the team in goals in all three games over the weekend.
On the year, Joksimovic leads the team in goals (90), points (114), steals (47) and sprints won (10). He is closing in on becoming the first Bucknell player to net at least 100 goals in a season since Garrin Kapecki in 1987.
Joksimovic and his Bison teammates will make the trip to California this weekend where they will take part in The Rodeo. Bucknell will face No. 17 Cal Baptist, No. 20 Loyola Marymount, Fresno Pacific and Air Force. It is the second-to-last weekend of the regular season for the Bison.
