Wrestling Hosts Bloomsburg Sunday in Final Home Dual of Year
1/28/2016 11:52:00 AM | Wrestling
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team may have seven dual matches left this season, but Sunday's 2 p.m. meeting with Bloomsburg marks the final home contest of the season for the Bison. The match will take place in Davis Gym and a free live video broadcast will be available on the Patriot League Network. Live results will be provided via TrackWrestling.com.
Prior to the match, six Bucknell seniors – Rustin Barrick, Chuck Boddy, Brenan McAllister, Paul Petrov, Robert Schlitt and Joe Stolfi – will be recognized during Senior Day ceremonies. Additionally, the Bison wrestling program is holding its annual Military Appreciation Day and is planning on recognizing a veteran pre-match.
Sunday's match concludes a five-match homestand for Bucknell, which is 6-5 overall this season and 2-2 against EIWA opponents. The Bison split home duals with Brown (W, 27-15) and Harvard (L, 26-21) last Saturday. Sunday's dual will end and eight-day layoff for Bucknell, which is 3-3 at home this year, but 3-1 in Davis Gym. The Bison are 13-3 in their last 16 duals in Davis Gym.
Five Bison are nationally ranked this week by Intermat, WrestlingReport.com or FloWrestling. Paul Petrov and Joe Stolfi are ranked by all three organizations, while Tyler Smith, Rustin Barrick and Tom Sleigh show up in at least one ranking.
Barrick has been one of Bucknell's hottest wrestlers of late, winning a team-best nine bouts in a row. He is 13-1 in his last 14 bouts and has a career-high 19 victories this season. Barrick has five bonus-point victories during his current winning streak.
Sleigh also has a lengthy winning streak having won six bouts in a row. He has won 12 in a row against unranked foes and is 18-4 overall on the season.
Petrov and Stolfi were honored last Saturday for reaching 100 career victories. Stolfi accomplished the feat earlier this season, while Petrov's 9-0 shutout of Brown's Mike Russo lifted him to the century mark. Stolfi ranks fifth on Bucknell's all-time wins list with 110, just one behind fourth-place David Marble. Petrov is eighth on that ledger with 101 career victories.
This is the third consecutive year Bucknell and Bloomsburg have met. The Huskies lead the all-time series 12-2-1 with the Bison's two victories coming in 1995 (W, 22-19) and 2015 (W, 36-9). Bucknell head coach Dan Wirnsberger was head coach at Bloomsburg for three seasons from 2002-03 to 2004-05.
Bloomsburg is 1-12 overall this season and 0-3 against EWL opponents. Just two wrestlers in its projected lineup for Sunday are above .500 this year.
Bucknell will open a six-match road trip to conclude the regular season next Sunday when it faces Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. in Fairfield, Connecticut. The Bison defeated the Pioneers 36-6 in Lewisburg last January and lead the all-time series 4-0.
