LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's water polo team is in the national rankings for the first time since 2010. The Bison, who were receiving votes in the preseason poll, are listed 25th in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 25 Poll, which was released Wednesday.
Bucknell, which was 14-14 a year ago and finished in seventh place at the CWPA Championship, returns 13 letterwinners from a team that won seven of its last 11 games. Included in that mix are the squad's two top scorers (Eleanor Marrs, Hannah Sunday), who are back after accounting for 104 of the team's 252 goals last spring.
This is the first appearance in the national poll for the Bison since they were ranked 19th in the April 28, 2010 poll.
Bucknell will open its 2016 season Feb. 6-7 at Brown's Bruno Classic. The Bison will face Marist, Hawaii, St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner that weekend. Bucknell will play at home on two occasions this spring. It will host the Bison Invitational Feb. 27-28 and will welcome Mercyhurst to Kinney Natatorium March 26.
