Wrestling to Compete at Home Three Times this Week
1/20/2016 11:07:00 AM | Wrestling
***Note: Saturday's matches will now take place in Davis Gym. Bucknell will wrestle Brown at 12 p.m. and then Harvard afterward. There will be approximately 10 minutes in between the two matches.***
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team has four remaining home duals this season and three of them will take place within a 48-hour span this week. The Bison will host Lock Haven Thursday at 7 p.m. in Davis Gym, and then two days later they will host EIWA foes Brown (12 p.m.) and Harvard (2 p.m.).
There is free admission for all three wrestling matches. All three are also scheduled to have live results via TrackWrestling and Thursday's Lock Haven match will feature a free live video stream on the Patriot League Network.
Bucknell (4-4, 1-1 EIWA) is in the midst of a five-match homestand as it will not leave Lewisburg until a Feb. 7 dual at Sacred Heart. The Bison were most recently in action last Friday when they were nipped by No. 9 Oklahoma, 23-21, in Sojka Pavilion. Ben Bliss (forfeit), Rustin Barrick (decision), Tom Sleigh (DQ) and Joe Stolfi (pin) were victorious for Bucknell against the Sooners.
The Bison last year were ranked in the USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll for nine weeks. On Tuesday, Bucknell made its first appearance in the poll listing this season, receiving one vote.
Six different Bison – Paul Petrov, Tyler Smith, Victor Lopez, Barrick, Sleigh and Stolfi – are listed in the national rankings by Intermat, WrestlingReport.com or FloWrestling. Stolfi has the highest ranking as he is listed seventh at 285 pounds by WrestlingReport.com and eighth by Intermat. He and Petrov are ranked by all three organizations.
Petrov enters this week's three matches within striking distance of becoming the eighth wrestler in program history to reach 100 career wins. The senior is 98-34 in his career, including a team-best 20-4 this season. Stolfi reached the 100-win plateau earlier this year and ranks sixth on the all-time wins list with 107 victories, just one behind Shane Riccio.
Barrick enters Thursday's Lock Haven match with the longest winning streak by a Bison at six consecutive victories. He has not lost since he was on his way to a seventh-place finish at the competitive Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in early December. Barrick has captured 10 of his last 11 bouts, is 16-6 on the season, and he owns a 7-0 mark in duals. Barrick is just two wins shy of tying his career high for victories in a season.
Bucknell will take a week off after Saturday's two duals. The Bison will then wrap up their home schedule Sunday, Jan. 31, with a 2 p.m. dual against Bloomsburg in Davis Gym. Six seniors will be recognized before the match as part of Senior Day ceremonies.
