LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following another 2-0 week against Patriot League opponents, the Bucknell women's basketball team swept the Lids Team Sports Patriot League weekly awards, announced by the conference on Monday. Junior forward Claire DeBoer was tabbed as the league's Player of the Week, while freshman Kaitlyn Slagus was voted the Rookie of the Week. Additionally, DeBoer was named the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week.
DeBoer earns her first weekly award this season after averaging 19.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, and 1.5 apg. The junior helped the Bison to a pair of wins over Lehigh and Colgate as they improved to 6-0 in league play for the first time since 1999-2000. DeBoer helped Bucknell erase a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter against the Mountain Hawks, collecting 23 points and seven rebounds. She then followed that performance with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds against the Raiders.
After the Bison came within reach against Lehigh in the fourth quarter, Slagus hit the game-tying three-pointer with two seconds left in regulation to complete the 17-point comeback in Bucknell's 80-77 overtime win over the Mountain Hawks. The freshman finished with 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists in Wednesday's thriller. Slagus then followed that up with eight points and seven rebounds in the 71-51 win over Colgate.
Bucknell is 12-5 overall and is all alone in first place in the Patriot League. The Bison sit one game ahead of preseason favorite Army West Point, which they defeated by 10 points earlier this season. They will look to keep it going with a pair of home games this week as they host Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Boston University at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
