LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior defender Lauren Dandie scored her first collegiate goal and also anchored a solid performance by the Bucknell back line as the Bison blanketed Saint Francis (Pa.) 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Emmitt Field. Shelby Roberts and Kendall Ham also scored for the Bison, who won both of their games this weekend to move to 3-2-1 overall.
“I was happy with the weekend,” said head coach Kelly Kuss. “Offensively, we are starting to connect which always takes a little bit longer. What's also exciting is we've had a number of people involved in those attacks.”
Bucknell was in attack mode from the opening horn and was able to score for the first time in the 34th minute. Off a corner kick from Karli Cirovski, Dandie was able to jump high and head the ball into the goal for the 1-0 lead. The assist from Cirovski was the first of her Bucknell career.
The Bison scored their second goal of the afternoon in the closing minute of the first half. Maddie Mulford crossed the ball from the left side, finding a sliding Roberts on the back post who was able to slot the ball between the pipes for the first goal of her collegiate career.
Ham scored her second goal of the weekend in the 47th minute when Devon Schulte kicked the ball to the left post, where she found a running Ham who struck the ball from 15 yards out and found the back of the net for the 3-0 lead.
Though the Bison had consecutive multi-goal contests, credit the Bucknell back line for posting back-to-back shutouts. The defense allowed a total of nine shots this weekend with just three on frame.
“The leadership in the back with Lauren Dandie and the rest of the back line has been instrumental in those shutouts. They've done a really nice job.”
Bucknell outshot the Red Flash 38-4, taking the first 21 shots of the match. The Bison also led in corner kicks, 8-0. Romina Kunza recorded nine saves in goal for Saint Francis.
Mulford led the Bison with seven shot attempts, followed by Alexis Gannon and Talia Szatkowski who finished with six shots apiece.
Carolyn Casey, Carly Baggott, Melissa MacPherson, Maddy Hackley, Sam Powers and Casey Gray each registered their first minutes of the season in the match. Coach Kuss used all 26 healthy players in the game.
Bucknell returns to action on Sept. 11 to host Iona before going on the road for a contest at No. 17 Ohio State.
