LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell's women's tennis team will compete at home for the third time this fall when it hosts four teams for the Bison invite on Friday and Saturday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. Joining the Bison at the event will be Lafayette, Niagara, Norfolk State and Saint Francis.
The Bison found success in this tournament last season, qualifying at least one player or team for the finals of all four brackets. Just like they did earlier this season at the Saint Joseph's Invitational, Maria Cioffi and Lisa Jouravleva made it an all-Bucknell championship in Flight A, where Cioffi went on to win the title. The Bison did the same in Flight C with Jorie Fox beating Allie Lane for first place, while Stephanie Pino took runner-up honors in Flight B.
Cioffi also won gold in the 12-team doubles bracket. She teamed with Michele Urbinati to go 3-0, including a win over a Saint Francis team in the championship match.
Three players have a winning record entering the weekend. Cioffi leads the way with a 6-2 mark, while Jouravleva is 5-4. Mishi Papich is 2-1 after advancing to the semifinals of the season-opening Bucknell Tournament. She didn't compete in either of the past two events, but will play in Flight 4 this weekend.
The Bison Invite is the final home event of the fall season. Following that the Bison will play at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational (Oct. 2-4) and the ITA Regional Championships.
