LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's golf team posted some good scores in its 2015-16 debut at the William & Mary Invitational earlier this week, and now the Bison look to bring that strong play back to their home course for the annual Bucknell Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Club.
The 54-hole event will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday, with play scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. both days. The tournament is open to the public and free of charge. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
Bucknell will be one of 15 teams in a quality field this weekend. Patriot League rivals Richmond and Lehigh will be competing, while other visiting teams include Princeton, Seton Hall, St. John's, Long Island, Saint Francis (Pa.), St. Francis (N.Y.), Niagara, Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, Siena, Valparaiso and Kutztown.
The Bison will be paired with Valparaiso and Siena for the first two rounds on Saturday. All eight Bucknell team members will be in action, with five playing toward the team score and three others playing as individuals.
Sophomore Lindsay Dodovich was low Bison last week at William & Mary. In her first round of the season, she fired a 2-under-par 70 and missed the team 18-hole record by just one shot. She ended up finishing T-18th in the individual standings, her first career top-20 finish.
Junior Emily Larson, the team's scoring leader a year ago, posted three rounds in the 70s last week (75-79-79). Freshman Katie Childers also got off to a strong start with rounds of 77-77-82.
Seton Hall is the defending Bucknell Invitational team champion. The Pirates finished with an 899 total over 54 holes. Bucknell finished 10th, with Larson and Jen Lee leading the way with 243 totals.
The Bison have won this event three times: 2006, 2010 and 2011. Katie Jurenovich is the last Bucknell individual champion, with her title coming in a playoff in 2010. Teri Schlang (2006), Jess Hetrich (2002) and Hilary Mainka (1999) have also claimed titles.
